Monthly Taize Service

Posted on Fri May 30 2008

Next service is August 2, 2009

A Taizé Service is held the first Sunday of each month at 5:00 p.m. This service includes scripture readings, prayers, meditative songs and silence. This is a very calm service that will rejuvenate your spirit.

Taize, in the south of Burgundy, France, is the home of an international, ecumenical community, founded there in 1940 by Brother Roger.  This community has become known for its ministry of reconciliation, peace and Christian unity.  The worship of Taize includes icons, meditative songs, prayer, scripture and silence.

The songs or music of Taize are short, repetitive, meditative and prayerful in nature.  The songs are sung in the form of a prayer.  When you are through praying, simply stop singing.  As others stop, the song simply fades.  Through the songs, little by little, our being finds an inner peace and unity with God.  In the busyness of our lives Taize offers us the space to be quiet and enter into the presence of God.
